House Incorporating Distinctive Blue Zinc Cladding by Altius Architecture

Ontario, Canada is the place where Thorncrest House is nested, incorporating distinctive cladding. The rectangular-shaped single storey residence was designed by Altius Architecture, for a family of six. Being one of their latest inspiring homes, it features contemporary elements and a coated in blue zinc cladding exterior, standing out from the general street landscape. Glass panels replace the regular walls, allowing the sun to flood the interior with light and warmth, especially during wintertime.“Particular attention was paid to natural daylight exposure at the basement walk-out, easing its transition to grade via a sunken pool, deck and grass terraces. Shading is provided by deep roof overhangs and cantilevered volumes.”

Spacious, modern and filled with colour, the social area, comprising the kitchen, dinning and a double height living room, inspires openness and dynamism. Luscious red colours some of the furnishing items, adding a sense of vitality throughout the house. The upper floor, organised in compartmented cantilevered volumes, accommodates the bedrooms and the bathrooms. Surrounded by a beautiful garden, the elegant Thorncrest House is a peaceful comfy home that highlights the natural contours of the surrounding site.
